Mr. Wesley Austin Brown

Mr. Wesley Austin Brown, 18, of Griffin, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at his residence.

Wesley was born Sept. 10, 1993 in Thomaston. He attended Griffin Primitive Baptist Church and was a 2012 graduate of Spalding High School. Wesley loved to travel and has traveled to Peru and France.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Pam Brown of Griffin; grandparents, Ed and Linda Brown of Griffin and Wayne Sr. and Gloria Brasiel of Thomaston; uncles and aunt, Jeff and Sharon Brown of Griffin, Michael Brasiel of Thomaston and Wayne Brasiel, Jr., of Thomaston and cousin, Courtney Brown of Griffin. Other family and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Wesley Austin Brown will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Elder Frank King will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 6–9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Willie Mae Evans

Mrs. Willie Mae Evans, age 86 of Molena, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012.

Mrs. Evans was born in Barnesville, Georgia on March 25, 1926. She is preceded in death by her parents, J. W. Gibson and Lucy Mae Ellerbee Gibson; her husband, Royces A. Evans; daughter, Connie Chappell; sons, Gerald Evans, Bobby Evans. Mrs. Evans was a member of Providence Baptist Church of Williamson.

Survivors include her children, Roger and Cherry Evans, Paulette and Gary Skelton, Mary and Leo Chambers, Charles and Theresa Evans, Lucy and Randall Wilkerson, Sandra and Bobo Lewis, Michael (Bubba) Evans; 23 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Burnice Gee of FL; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Keith Ford will officiate. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. George Ronald Howard Sr.

April 17, 1938—July 01, 2012

Mr. George Ronald Howard, Sr., age 74 of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Howard was born in Griffin, Georgia on April 17, 1938. He is preceded in death by parents, Reverend G. L. Howard and Nellie Merceir Howard. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church and had been self-employed for many years. Mr. Howard served on the Spalding County Parks and Recreation Board for 14 years, served on the Spalding County Board of Health, and was a longtime member of the National & Georgia Home Furnishings Association. He was a loving husband to Betty, a great father, and amazing grandfather and great-frandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Betty Ann Howard; son, Ron Howard and his wife Connie; daughter, Susan Metts and her husband, Dave; grandchildren Dereck Howard, Hailey Howard and Nick Howard; Justin Wynne and his wife, Laura; Brian Metts, Summer Metts; great-grandchild, Hunter Wynne; brother, Larry Howard and his wife Juanita; sister, Betty Stephens; brother-in-law, Harold Greene and his wife, Imogene; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Christian Ministries Hospice of Griffin, and associated staff.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Reverend David Hill and Reverend Charles Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Jimmy Butts

Former Griffin resident



Graveside services for James H. “Jimmy” Butts Jr., 53, were conducted Monday, July 2, 2012 in West View Cemetery.

Mr. Butts was a native of Milledgeville and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He lived in Griffin for a number of years and had spent the past two years in Macon. He was the son of the late James H. Butts Sr and Charlotte Smith Butts.

He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Perkins of Griffin and Helen (Clayton) Monkus, of Mount Holly, N.C. Nieces and nephews also survive.



Mrs. Laura Brown

Sept. 29, 1964—July 1, 2012

Meansville



Mrs. Laura Greathouse Brown, 47, of The Rock, passed away July 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Greathouse, and her sister, Deanna Garner.

Laura was a graduate of Clayton Jr. College, Georgia State University, and Texas A & M, all with honors. She was previously a Mortgage Loan Officer with United Bank. She had been involved in Navy Relief, the USO and the Pike County Kiwanis Club. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Thomaston and enjoyed her family, church and the outdoors. She was a devoted community servant and a beloved wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years Steve Brown; children Nathaniel Brown of Tifton, David Brown and Kathy Brown, both of Meansville; mother Bette Greathouse of The Woodlands, Texas; sisters Wanda Holloway of The Woodlands, Texas and Stacy O’Dell of Supply, N.C.; father-in-law and mother-in-law Floyd and Mary Ann Brown, and beloved family friend Mike Pitts.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, July 3, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, at 10 a.m. in Life Springs Church with Dr. Rex King and Rev. Jim Pitts officiating. Interment will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery in Zebulon. Moody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Mr. Burlie Forehand

Jan. 28, 1921—June 30, 2012

Panama City, Fla. resident



Mr. Burlie Forehand, 91, of Panama City, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Mr. Forehand served in WWII as a heavy mortar crewman in the 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division, 7th Army. His daughter Shirley Kinsey, recently published a book based on his war letters home, titled originally “Rainbowman WWII”, and the Second edition titled “Yours Till The End”. He was a member of Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Forehand was born January 28, 1921 in Bonifay, Florida to Ruel and Dollie Forehand. He is survived by four daughters: Peggy Norris and husband Dave of Salisbury, NC, Janice Kelley and husband Donnie of Griffin, GA, Frances Walters of Panama City, Shirley Kinsey and husband Henry Missionaries to El Salvador; one son: Jerry Forehand and wife Carolyn of Panama City; one sister: Docia Courtney of Panama City. Mr. Forehand was preceded in death by his wife; Hazel Forehand. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2012, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave Norris and Rev. Henry Kinsey officiating.
