Deadline is 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 or the first 104 golfers who register for the annual Griffin Moose Golf Tournament slated for 9 a.m. Aug. 18 at The Pines Golf Course in Williamson, Ga. Fee for the standard Fort Lauderdale tournament is $65 which includes cart, green fees, lunch for two and social for two. Teams will be drawn by the golf committee.

Applications can be picked up at the Griffin Moose Lodge No. 1503 at 1435 Zebulon Rd., or by calling (770) 228-1173 or from any golf committee member: Steve Ballard, Carlton English, Chuck Hammill, Donna Hammill, Pam Miller, Chip Morris and Melanie Morris. All check are to be made out to the Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter 1288.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the programs and activities of the Women of the Moose. The Women of the Moose are part of a larger fraternal organization that raises funds to help support children in need, senior members, Moose members and their community. Part of the proceeds also help sponsor the Special Olympics of Georgia Bowling Tournament to be held at the end of August.

The tournament’s social and team introductions take place 7 p.m., Aug. 17 in the Griffin Moose Lodge ballroom. Immediately following the tournament lunch and prizes will follow in the Moose Lodge dining room.

YOUTH FOOTBALL SIGN-UPS:

Youth football registration for kids ages 5-12 will take place on Saturdays only from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., beginning July 14 through Aug. 4 at the City Park Community Center.

A birth certificate must be presented at sign-ups. The age control date is the player’s age as of Sept. 1, 2012. Any youth registering must be accompanied by their parent or guardian and all prospective players must be weighed at registration.

Cost for the tackle leagues, ages 7-12, are $90 each, while the Flag Football league, for ages 5-6, is $60. This registration fee also includes a $10 per player “user fee” which is being charged to all youth sports participants to help cover the increasing costs of utilities and maintenance for each program. A limited amount of partial scholarships will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Griffin Bulldog Club will hold its annual banquet July 19 at the University of Georgia-Griffin Campus. Georgia Bulldogs play-by-play announcer Scott Howard will be the keynote speaker.

FALL SOCCER REGISTRATION:

Soccer registration for the fall 2012 season is open on-line — go to the registration page and hit the link at the top of the page, proceed to sign-in and complete. Walk-in registration will be from 10 a.m., until 3 p.m., July 14, 21, 28 at the Tyus Park snack bar. New uniforms will be used for U-4 thru U-10’s. Cost for U-4/U-6 is $25 and U-8/U-10 is $35.

ADULT GATORS PRACTICE: All adults 19 and over who want to swim in the upcoming Griffin Gator Invitational will be able to practice at City Park Pool Mondays through Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. and at 7 p.m. until the Gator Invitational July 20-21 at City Park Pool.
