The Spalding County Animal Care and Control Advisory Board is looking into the costs for air conditioning at the county animal shelter. While funding for air conditioning is not in the budget, ACCAB Chairwoman Vickie Hennesy said she was told by County Manager William Wilson Jr., the board can research fund-raising and what other shelters use.
Hennessy said the issue is not paying for the units, which she felt could be donated, but the increased utility bill to operate them. Animal Control Director Brent Foster said the electric bill increases a couple hundred dollars a month to run fans to keep the air circulating during the summer.
Foster said the state Department of Agriculture requires adequate ventilation,with fans on the cats and the dog pens.
