— Remember the emphatic declaration made by Nancy Pelosi that if Obamacare was passed it would create 400,000 jobs almost immediately, and it passed, but no 400,000 jobs occurred, so think twice before believing all the exaggerations being made about all the resulting jobs, trains and planes, and reduction in traffic congestion if the T-SPLOST is passed.

— I signed up for the emergency notification system in Spalding County called “First Call.” When bad weather approaches, my cellphone and home phone start ringing and I have immediate knowledge of what is heading our way. Great system, and if you haven’t signed up you should. I had two warning calls tonight so if I needed to take quick action I was ready for what was coming.

— I would like for one of our county commissioners to explain to the people of Spalding County why it’s necessary to pay nearly three-quarters of a million dollars on a 15-year lease for a lot with a cell tower. The cell tower is needed for our emergency response system, so why don’t they use the eminent domain law and purchase the lot for a one-time payment?

— I heard that a lot of people from Griffin wanted to compete in the Olympics because fencing is an Olympic event.

— I don’t like the baggy britches, but if they want to make fools out of themselves, then let them. Also, if they are criminals, it makes them easier to catch because they can’t run away with their pants falling down.

— The world would be a lot better place if there were more places like Mayberry. We lost a national treasure when Andy Griffith died.

— I’m voting no on the T-SPLOST.

— I would say that My Two Cents contributors have the mentality of preschoolers but that would be an insult to preschoolers.

— I have been a Baptist all my life, and I have always had trouble earning enough money to pay my bills. Meanwhile, these Scientologists are all rich and famous. Maybe God is sending a message that he wants us all to be Scientologists.

— If you are concerned about T-SPLOST and how other counties could force T-SPLOST on Spalding County, even though Spalding County could turn it down: Our own local state legislators put the people in Spalding County in this situation. This is an insane idea by our state legislators, who have taken away the independence of voters in Spalding County.

— I don’t got no use for these new-fangled flying machines and I don’t got no use for no new airport neither. If a man was meant to fly, God would have gave him wings. It ain’t natural.

— Have you seen the new billboard on Taylor Street promoting the T-SPLOST? I want to know who is paying for it and why. I doubt there’s a person in Spalding County who hasn’t heard about the T-SPLOST. We’ve all seen the proposed projects and most of us know the only things that the T-SPLOST would fund will be the new airport and the railroad.

— Some reasons why I am voting no to the T-SPLOST: 1. Ten years is too long a commitment for an extra project tax — enough money should be saved up from the general budget. 2. Taxation without representation — if our county votes ‘No’ we will still be taxed if the others vote “Yes”. It’s defeatist to use this as an excuse to vote “Yes”, vote it down and fix it. 3. Maintenance funds aren’t included — sure the SPLOST pays for new things, but it will be annual budget funds needed for upkeep. See what happened with our recycling centers.

— There are too many negative comments in My Two Cents. People need to be more positive.

The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office found violations at five local businesses

that were reportedly paying out cash on video gambling machines Sheriff Beam said deputies

executed five search at the businesses and made arrests for commercial gambling, both cash and machines were confiscated. The Sheriff also said that compliance inspections will continue for all businesses operating the game machines and more investigations into the illegal gambling will take place. Well they put the machines back a week later and are still paying out cash???? What happened too the compliance part of this picture!!!

Does anyone think it would be racist if a national chain restaurant had a program called "365 White"?

There isn't one that I know of. However, McDonald's does have a program called "365 Black". Look it up. I don't eat there. It's a racist establishment. If you eat there, you are supporting it.

Okay Julie, I looked up 365 Black and as near as I could tell, it's some kind of website backed by McDonalds and targeting the black community. It looks like a ploy on the part of McDonalds to encourage blacks to become employees and/or customers. I agree that anything that exclusively targets a particular segment of society is wrong, but I won't avoid McDonalds because of this. I don't eat there because the food is unhealthy, and the service is usually bad.

Too many negative comments? Ok. I'm positive that Obamacare will cost the American taxpayers Billions, eventhough Nancy Pelosi and our President repeatedly have said it will save money.
