• lt The University of Georgia opens the football season against the University of Buffalo. Georgia would have a better and harder game if they played the Griffin High Bears. Georgia certainly knows how to avoid the likes of Alabama, Arkansas and LSU.

• A vote for Bob Gilreath and Eddie Freeman is a vote for the new airport. Come on voters in Districts 3 and 4, do your job.

• Think about this. If chickens practiced same-sex companionship, we would have no eggs and would soon run out of chickens, and there would be no Chick-fil-A, Zaxby’s, KFC, Church’s or Popeyes.

• If you don’t shop at Ingles and won’t be using the Moreland Road extension that T-SPLOST money will be paying for, do you think there is any chance that other Spalding County residents can get some of the T-SPLOST money spent on a road that will make it easier for them to get to their grocery store?

• Southern Gospel is great and I love the old gospel hymns but there’s nothing wrong with new music as well. As long as it’s praising God, that is what really matters.

• Let’s play a game. I am a county commissioner, I supply the county with most of the gasoline they use. My wife is running for an elected position and so is my accountant. Who am I? Is this Jeopardy or Monopoly?

• Mr. Freeman says that we need to create jobs and develop businesses in Griffin and Spalding County, yet he, Gilreath and Ray voted to destroy Golden Girl Ministries without telling them what to do to satisfy the three commissioners and keep their business going. Their mouths say “we need businesses,” but their hands vote to end businesses. Who said politicians couldn’t talk out both sides of their mouths and vote differently with their hands at the same time?

• To the secular, progressive, liberal writing that everyone of us who watch Fox News and then write to My Two Cents are intellectual midgets, nothing I write is because of Fox News. I can read, search the internet and make my own decisions. That cannot be said of most Democrats, they believe what they are told. Now, if you want to debate anything that I have written, lets get it on. One more thing, everything you know has been written or said by someone before you.

• Organized crime is alive and well in Griffin-Spalding County. The citizens are being robbed by these mobsters, the tax assessor, the commissioners, the school board, the electric department, the water department, and all other county and city departments that are sucking our wallets dry. Always wanting more money and making empty promises.

• To get a new airport would require a bridge to be built over Cabin Creek. They could call it “The Bridge to Nowhere No. 2.” Vote no.

• I used to have a lot of respect for Joe Paterno and Penn State but what hypocrites they turned out to be.

• It would be kind of hard for the apostle Paul to have read the King James Bible, since he lived about 1,500 years before it came out.

• Just to let all the folks know, who seem to think they can dump their tires, trash and live and dead animals on the dirt part of Smoak Road, we are installing several wildlife motion sensor cameras. So when you are doing what you know is wrong, smile cause you will be on candid camera for the sheriff’s department to deal with you.

• Wasn’t there an ordinance or law passed saying people are supposed to keep their animals confined to their own property? Then why am I constantly having to chase other folks’ dogs out of my yard? Maybe Animal Control should make a few trips down Smoak road early in the morning or late in the evening, when people seem to think they can let their dogs roam free to pester and harass everyone else.

• The Georgia Bulldogs are going to win it all this year.

• Ronda Rich’s column about the King James version of the Bible was off by a year. The 400th anniversary was last year — 1611 + 400 = 2011. Shakespeare was writing, in the language of the people, about that time. If anyone can read and clearly Shakespeare’s work, then you will get a lot out of the KJV.

• I fully support Chick-fil-A. Thank goodness there are business people who will take a stand for family values.

• I am proud to say that I am a black, Republican, conservative honor student. This fact goes against the assumption that all black people are Democrats, liberals, and high school dropouts.

• The secular, progressive liberals in America don’t want anyone to show their identification when voting. There is a reason for that stance; any illegal can vote and most are Democrats. I have to show my identification at doctor’s office, hospital, when voting, when purchasing anything with credit card or writing a check to purchase anything. I don’t complain and make foolish statements that I’m being profiled about it either.

• “The shared, central project of the three regimes (Pol Pot, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong, all atheistic regimes) was a total re-design of society in ways unrestrained by human feelings or morality. Without these, people who did not fit the plan could be re-designed or eliminated.” — Jonathan Glover, British philosopher.

• There’s only one authorized version of the Bible and that’s the King James. All others are false translations because the Bible says you’re not supposed to add to or take away from God’s word. These people who are reading other versions need to repent and go back to reading the Kings James before it’s too late.

• I think commuter rail and public transportation is a great idea. In fact, personal ownership of vehicles should be severely restricted by local, state and federal governments.

• “Vote no on the T-SPLOST.” John Devlin, thank you on behalf of people of Spalding County for your July 27 letter to the GDN. You stated the truth on all four points of your letter. We need more citizens who share your feelings and opinions to step up and be heard. If there were more, such wastefully silliness as this tax would not even come up for a vote. I wish more people with your straight-forward thinking would run for public office, but it doesn’t seem like that is ever going to happen. I hope enough people read your letter and get fired up to vote down this evil tax down. John, I speak for the good people of Spalding County, a big hearty thank you to you, sir.

I love all people: black, white, yellow, purple, blue, straight, gay, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Athiest, Agnostic, Hindu, pretty, handsome, ugly, average looking, whatever. As long as you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you. If you're a bad person and intend on hurting other people--I don't like you. And I should pray for you, like Jesus commands, instead of being angry. Sometimes I fail at this, but that's something for me to work on. Supporting family values, MY values, is something that I just HAVE to do. IT's WHAT I BELIEVE IN. It doesn't mean that because you don't have those same values, that I hate you. I am not a bigot. I am not a hater. In fact, most that have met me would probably tell you that I am one of the most loving people you will ever meet. So just DON'T assume you know anything about me when I say I support Chick-Fil-A and the Cathy family. And don't assume you know anything about them. If you don't want to eat there, fine...you have always had that right. But if you boycotted every company, or anyone who took your money and spent it on something you don't agree with, then you'd never be able to have a job and pay your taxes, or buy a product ANYWHERE. God made us all unique, and you're never going to agree 100% with anyone else. Also, please reference the First Amendment to the Constitution of our great country.

When ever a voting initiative begins with "Should the constitution be amended... " I vote no. That's why we have laws and ordinances and legislators.

In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

To the person making fun of the Georgia Bulldogs having such an easy schedule....If they really wanted an easy schedule they could just play Georgia Tech 12 times this season.

"White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans"??? Really?? Isn't this racist--only for African Americans?? I could type a lot more, but isn't this our own administration stating that African Americans are not as smart as everyone else?

I also know how to Google, and I discovered the same educational initiative for Hispanics, Asian and Pacific Islanders, American Indians and Alaska Natives to name a few. Do you really feel underprivileged and deprived of opportunities as a white woman? I urge you to drop your vendetta against African Americans and any other group of people.

At this stage I don't see any specifics as to how Obama's education initiative will be implemented, but I do agree that something needs to be done. It is unfortunate that he has chosen to segregate this initiative because the poverty, violence, and crime that are hindering educational opportunities have no racial boundaries. It also needs to be recognized that this isn't a case of "Build it and they will come." because if this were true then the high percentage of school drop-outs among the poor in areas where the schools are good wouldn't be happening. Statistics show that the greatest number of welfare recipients are single mothers with minor children. I wonder how welfare reform, in the order of limiting the length of time and number of children for whom a mother can receive benefits, would impact our educational system.

The answer is obvious, "African Americans",if you classify yourself like that, are "challenged" (as we say in the Ed. biz)and may need "additional help". Blacks, on the other hand, are just regular Americans, intelligent and hard working, just like "whites". When blacks and whites stop with this racial pandering, we will all move forward as Americans (and members of the human race). This is not the 1950's.

Wow....first we fight over who's God is the "real" God....now we fight over which version of the Bible is "authorized" or "false translations".

In 1998, fundamentalist Christian organizations including the Family Research Council and the Christian Coalition encouraged their supporters to quit using the King James Bible because historical research has made it clear that King James was homosexual. Gary Bauer, founding executive director of the Family Research Council and one-time presidential candidate, stated at a press conference "I feel uncomfortable that good Christians all over America, and indeed the world, are using a document commissioned by a homosexual. Anything that has been commissioned by a homosexual has obviously been tainted in some way." So that Bible that you love and cherish, look to for strength and comfort, was actually commissioned by a gay man...all the while, you sit back and use that same Bible to condemn homosexuals.

If one loves the very beautiful English in the King James translation, but feel it is "tainted" then one can always use the Douay-Rheims translation instead.
