Lady Tigers rout Spalding, 13-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — The Spalding High Lady Jaguars softball team took one on the chin Tuesday evening, falling to the Fayette County Lady Tigers 13-1 in non-region action on the road.

Fayette County got a measure of revenge Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers lost to Spalding 4-3 last Friday in the first game of the Diamond Classic softball tournament at Volunteer Park in Griffin. Spalding falls to 2-3 on the season.

Spalding finished with five hits in the contest. Jennifer Viera doubled and Whitney Combs, Toni Willis, McKenleigh Kilgore and Courtney Bunn all singled for the Lady Jags. Combs scored Spalding’s lone run in the first inning by stealing home.

Spalding High plays its home opener Thursday evening at 5 p.m. against the Jackson Lady Devils in non-region action. The Lady Jags’ Region 4-AAAA opener is next Tuesday, Aug. 21 against Dutchtown at home. That game is slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
