Donavan Adams scored on runs of 3 and 20 yards, Dillan Brogdon threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Dunn and then ran for a 1-yard score and Rusty Duffee added three extra-point conversions as Griffin Christian topped visiting Central Fellowship Christian 30-0 Friday night in the season opener at Nix Field to end an 11-game losing streak that dated back to 2010.

In the process, the Bobby Brodgon-coached Crusaders more than quadripled last year’s scoring total — 7 points. Griffin Christian finished 0-10 and was shut out by every opponent except one last season. But it’s a new outlook at Griffin Christian this season as the Crusaders had a pair of 100-yard rushers Friday in Adams (114 yards) and C.J. Lewis (118 yards).

The accolades, however, weren’t reserved just for the offense. The Randy Wilson-coached Crusaders defense pitched its first shutout in 28 games, since a 26-0 win against Nathanael Greene at Nix Field on Sept. 18, 2009.

Griffin Christian continues its season 7:30 p.m., Friday at Dominion Christian. Griffin Christian’s last win prior to Friday’s night’s victory came on Nov. 5, 2010 at Dominion Christian in Marietta by a count of 34-12.

SKIPSTONE FOOTBALL: ANDERSON, S.C. — Christian Salvador threw a 20-yard sweep pass to wide receiver Jamacio Kimble for Skipstone Academy’s first points of the season to lead the Warriors in a 34-6 loss Friday night at Anderson in the Glory for Christ East Division opener for both teams.

The third-quarter pass was a highlight for the Warriors (0-3 overall, 0-1 league) on a night where Salvador, Luke Mayben and Mason Lumpkin tallied five tackles each and Josh King and Colby Polk added four tackles each to lead the team on defense.

Running back Dave Quashi had 55 yard rushing and made some nice moves all night, said head coach Dan Salvador.

“We’re getting better each week,” he added. “I saw some positives.”

Skipstone goes in search of its first win this season when it travels Friday to take on the Georgia Force at 7:30 p.m. The Force won Glory for Christ championships in 2005 and 2006, while finishing Glory for Christ runner-ups in 2007 and 2010.

FAITH CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL: KENNESAW — Quendarrious “Bingo” Williams ran for touchdowns of 35, 40 and 60 yards to lead Faith Christian Academy in an 86-24 loss Friday at Shiloh Hills in independent 8-man football. The 86 points were the most scored against FCA ever, eclipsing the previous record of 78 set during the school’s inaugural season in 2008 when the Lions lost 78-14 at Barrow County on Oct. 3 in the seventh game of the season.

Faith Christian Academy trailed 56-8 at the half Friday.

The Lions, idle this week, look to get back on the right track in their next game Sept. 7 at Kingsway Academy.
