A woman was killed Friday morning in a car accident in downtown Zebulon.

According to Sgt. Michael Stewart with the Georgia State Patrol Post 26 in Thomaston, the woman was travelling in her minivan along U.S. Highway 19 North around 6 a.m. on Friday when, just before Hall Street, she struck the rear of a truck that was carrying wooden logs and about to make a right turn into a gas station.

After striking the logs, the woman’s vehicle veered off crossing the southbound lane of Highway 19 and came to a stop when hitting a building, Stewart said.

Stewart said the accident remains under investigation and is expected to be completed by Monday. He said he could not release the name of the women who was killed due to the fact that her family had not been notified yet.

Stewart also said that Georgia State Patrol is still investigating what caused the woman to strike the logs, which he said did not come off the truck, and whether striking the logs killed her or hitting the building.

No one else was injured as a result of the accident, Stewart said.
