Local nonprofit empowers women in need

A UGA 2011 Georgia County Guide found that 25 percent of the households in Spalding County are headed by women. It also found that only 32 percent of the approximately 67,000 county residents who are 25 years old or older have completed high school — 35 percent when GEDs are included. Unemployment is consistently higher than in most surrounding counties.

Life Song Ministries, a Christian-based nonprofit organization, has worked since its inception in 2007 to change some of those demographics for the better by providing life-skills and job-readiness training to women who desire to change their lives but lack the resources to do so.
