A Griffin woman has been hospitalized with a flesh eating bacteria.

Desiree Nicholson-Alford, 28, was admitted to the hospital in Thomaston almost two weeks ago with an infection of flesh eating bacteria, according to her mother, Cathy Bagley, who works in the central office at Griffin-Spalding County Schools. Bagley said her daughter is doing pretty good, “the doctors say the wound is healing really good.”

Nicholson-Alford had surgery Sept. 9 to remove infected tissue, her mother said “from her bottom, about the size of a baseball on each cheek.”
