LOCUST GROVE — The Spalding High Jaguars football team played about as flat as a team could play Friday night, falling 14-0 to the Locust Grove Wildcats in Region 4-AAAA crossover action on the road.

Spalding, out of Division B, falls to 1-1-1 while Division A team Locust Grove improves to 3-1.

It’s the first time Spalding has been shut out since a 48-0 loss to Sandy Creek on Oct. 21, 2011.

Spalding fell victim to the “Big 3” for Locust Grove — Wildcats quarterback Keenan Wise, wideout Cameron McDowell and fullback Garrett Wallace. Each of them contributed to the Wildcats’ third straight win Friday. McDowell ran 60 yards on a fake punt for a touchdown, Wise (8-of-14, 77 yards passing) rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown and Wallace carried the ball 20 times for 93 yards, including huge runs in the second half to seal the victory.

The Jags started the game well as quarterback Powell Krepps completed his first two passes for a quick first down. The offense stalled after that and Spalding had to punt. Spalding linebacker Jevaris Jones got a big sack on Wise minutes later and the Jags defense forced a fourth-down and 10 from the Locust Grove 40.

Instead of punting, McDowell dropped back to pass, saw nothing and took off through the middle almost untouched for the 60-yard TD and the 7-0 first-quarter lead.

Spalding had a chance to tie the game late in the second quarter. Starting from their own 20, the Jags marched to the Wildcats’ 8-yard line, thanks in part to a 32-yard pass from Krepps to wideout Rodney Jackson. But Jags running back Ben Allen fumbled the ball at the Wildcats 3 and LG recovered it at the 2, ending the drive. The score remained 7-0 Locust Grove at the half.

Locust Grove held the ball 20 of the 24 minutes in the second half, getting the TD run from Wise with 5:29 left in the third quarter for the 14-0 lead and using Wallace to churn out yards in the fourth. Spalding only had two possessions in the second half -- once in the third and once in the fourth. Locust Grove outgained Spalding 153-22 in the second half, 303-131 overall.

Spalding’s next game is against Division A foe Dutchtown Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
