Benjamin Parker (17:48) finished 24th out of 170 runners to lead the Jags. Rounding out the Jags lineup were: Daniel Blake (19:31) in 76th, Brett Piland (19:32) in 77th, Ryan Silvis (19:35) in 78th, Jon Eady (19:55) in 92nd, Evan Davis (PR 19:46) in 85th and Christian Gray (PR 19:47) in 86th.
“We did not have everyone at the meet on Saturday, but the ones there made me very proud,” said SHS head coach Dolores Owen.
Stephanie Estrada (23:16) placed 19th out of 110 runners. Rounding out the Lady Jags lineup were: Blair Dunaway (24:53) in 39th, Emma Johnston (25:29) in 43rd, McKenzie Dallas (25:30) in 44th, Alisha Jordan (PR 25:56) in 48th, Grenisha Daniel (25:57) in 49th and May Melton Geiger (27:01) in 62nd.
“The girls team is beginning to run together more as a team,” said Owen, whose team was running without LiaAnne Harris. “I was proud of how they all stepped up and ran hard without one of their teammates.”
Spalding hosts the 10th annual mid-season jag Invitational on Saturday.
“This weekend is going to be larger than our first meet,” Owen said of a meet that had eight schools.
The middle school runners go off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the girls varsity at 9 a.m., boys varsity at 9:40 a.m., JV boys at 10 a.m. and JV girls at 10:20 a.m.

DOOLEY TO VISIT GRIFFIN:
Georgia’s legendary coach and athletic director, Vince Dooley, brings his popular book tour of Georgia to Griffin on Thursday, Oct. 11. Dooley will be at the UGA Griffin campus in the Student Learning Center from 1-3 p.m. There is no admission and the public is invited.
The Griffin Dogwood Garden Club will host a celebration in Dooley’s honor. Books, collector’s prints, game day memorabilia, DVDs and more will be for sale, and all items purchased during the event will be autographed. Checks or cash are accepted only.
Dooley’s best selling book is his autobiography, “Dooley — My Forty Years at Georgia,” chronicling the span of his career at UGA.
The sale also features “Dooley’s Playbook,” with dazzling artwork by Steve Penley featuring the 34 most memorable plays in Georgia’s storied football history. A children’s book is presented, “Hairy Dawg’s Journey through the Peach State,” as well as “Vince Dooley’s Garden — The Horticultural Journey of a Football Coach” and the just-released “History and Reminiscences of the University of Georgia,” also featuring original paintings by Penley, will be available.
The numbered artist prints are made from original paintings in Dooley’s home.
“These are fun events as we travel across Georgia,” Dooley said. “As it’s up close with fans of all ages.”

ANNUAL SIGHT-IN DAY:
The Griffin Gun Club will hold its annual sight-in day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the gun club on Amelia Road.
There is no cost to sight in your deer-hunting gun. Members will be on the rifle range to help you make sure your gun hits where you aim. Take ammunition you will hunt with. You want to zero in your gun with the same brand and grain bullet you will hunt with in order to assure accuracy.
