Pike (4-3 overall, 2-1 region) jumped to a 14-0 halftime lead over visiting SW Macon (1-6, 0-3) as Pirates quarterback Tyler Gregory got the party started with a 22-yard touchdown run and running back Tony Anthony scored on an 78-yard TD run.
In the second half, Tray Taylor scored on an 8-yard run and tight end Jess DeVoursney had a 23-yard TD reception to extend the Pirates’ lead to 28-0 and basically seal the victory. SW Macon scored two touchdowns in the final five minutes for the 28-14 final score.
Pike is off this week. The Pirates host region foe and Class AAA No. 1 state-ranked Peach County (6-0, 2-0) Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Lamar County 56, Monticello 13:
MONTICELLO, Ga. — Lamar County’s Lawrence Austin scored two touchdowns and Quay Searcy had a touchdown reception and a fumble-return TD on defense to lead the Trojans to a 56-13 wipeout of the Monticello Hurricanes last Friday night in Region 4-AA action on the road.
The Class AA No. 5 state-ranked Trojans won their fifth straight contest to improve to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0 in region play while Monticello lost its fourth straight to fall to 1-5, 0-3.
Searcy got things started with a 42-yd TD reception and Austin scored on TD runs of 14 and 89 yards to give Lamar a quick 22-0 lead and the Trojans didn’t look back. Searcy then ran 20 yards for his fumble-return TD, Antwan Wallace scored on a 24-yard TD run and L.J. Smith scored on a 2-yard TD run to give Lamar a 43-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Jeremy Fletcher and Akeem Colquitt had TD runs of 82 and 2 yards, respectively, and Lamar led 56-0. Monticello finally dented the scoreboard late in the game, scoring two TDs (with a blocked PAT) for the final 56-13 margin.
Lamar travels to Eatonton, Ga. on Friday to face region foe Putnam County (2-4, 1-2) at 7:30 p.m.
