Daa’ood Amin is supporting the re-election of President Barack Obama.

He had placed a banner outside of his business which was torn down and stolen 10 days later. The night after the sign went up, Oct. 11, someone egged and rolled his home with toilet paper and tore down a lawn sign there.

“I am surprised by the level of disdain,” Amin said, admitting the county will most likely go Republican. But he was concerned “that they’re worried about a sign.”

The large sign, a 12-foot by 4-foot banner, was placed on the exterior of the local Democratic Party headquarters, 133 North Hill St., a building he owns. It had a picture of Obama with the words “Re-elect President Barack Obama Vote Tues., Nov. 6th, 2012.”

Amin filed police reports with the Sheriff’s Office for the incident at his home on Oct. 11, and with the city for the Oct. 21, theft of sign on his building. Both are listed as criminal trespass cases.

Amin has lived at his residence for 18 years and has been an active member of the local business community, serving on the Griffin Spalding Development Authority and other local boards.

The incident at his home occurred between midnight and 4:30 a.m., on Oct. 11. The sprinkler system goes off at 4:30 a.m., he said and took down some of the toilet paper. He said eggs were found in and on his mailbox.

The theft of the sign from the building occurred between 10 p.m., Oct. 20, and 5 p.m., Oct. 21. The sign cost Amin $225.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact local law enforcement.

Wow! Judge and jury. Sounds like Mr. Amin is certain that who ever tore up his signs are Republicans. Its doubtful that the average Republican would tear up anyones Obama signs much less go to the trouble of finding out his personal residence just to tear up signs there too.

Legally registered voters (those who choose to register in order to use their right to vote) don't normally stoop to this type of behavior.

What are you even talking about, registered, active voters or republicans don't "stoop" to vandalization/theft. Are you privy to a study no one else knows about that proves this statement? It's like saying college graduates never commit rape. Bonkers.

FSchubert: Lets try this another way. I would bet money if you rode the streets of Griffin at night and asked anyone who may be out between the hours of midnight and 4:30 am who they would vote for in the next election they would say "Obama". Why would this be true? Because all Republicans are in the bed resting before they have to get up and go to work the next day, OR they are already at work on their third shift sucky hour job because they don't let the government support them. And when you look at Griffin as a WHOLE, there stands to be many many more Democrats than Republicans. Take of your crotchedy old liberal rosed colored glasses and see the truth Mr. "Bonkers" yourself.

It is scary that people like you can vote.

I really don't expect to see such an elaborate troll on the Griffin Daily News website, but I am going to tell myself that you are so that I don't have an aneurysm from your outright unabashed closed minded, stereotyping, blinder hindered view of the world.

You know what republicans would be out that late to vandalize a sign? Ones who want to vandalize a sign; and if you truly believe that there is not a single conservative capable of such a thing, please stay home on election day.

Kniepic: We aren't talking about the whole United States here--we are talking about something that happened in GRIFFIN, GA--if you didn't read that part. You know, its funny--you liberals--if you read all of our posts--its you and the other Democrat that used terms like "bonkers" and "troll" in your response to my posts. Its so sad that you must lower yourselves to the name calling. It's just...not...polite. But why would I or anyone else expect anything different?

And that was "average" Republican voter not active. Read the comment before you bother to comment. And I noticed that neither one of you touched on the fact that the person whom this article was written about just assumes this crime was committed by the someone who supports the opposite party. Doesn't that bother anyone?

It's such a sign of ignorance and idiocy to vandalize someone's property over a political sign. If you don't like it, just go and vote for the other person. I wonder if Romney signs in liberal areas get vandalized as much as Obama signs do in the hotbed of conservatism.
