Griffin Christian, Faith Christian end 2012 season with loss

Junior Sean Montgomery had 140 all-purpose yards to lead Griffin Christian in a 25-12 season-ending loss Friday at Nix Field against New Creation Christian in ICSGA 11-man action. Griffin Christian played well on both sides of the ball, but New Creations senior back Zac Goodwin dominated carrying the ball 31 times for 250 rushing yards and three touchdown, while adding 71 return yards.

2:22 left in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter New Creation (5-1, 4-0 ICSGA South) scored to pull ahead 12-6. Birthday boy Donovan Jones – who missed the last two games due to a concussion – ran in a 6-yard touchdown with 0:31 left in the half to tie the score 12-all.

Goodwin took the game into his own hands on New Creations first possession of the second half, handling 11 of 12 snaps and running all 70 yards to score his final touchdown. Junior Taylor Dunn intercepted a pass to set up a Griffin Christian drive at midfield in the final 12 minutes, but the Crusaders couldn’t convert and were forced to punt at midfield.

White, playing corner, deflected a third-and-long pass that would have all but put the game out of reach with 6:45 left, forcing New Creation to punt. Griffin Christian advance the ball to the New Creation 27 where on first down with 5:42 remaining in the game New Creation intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to account for the game’s final margin.

CROWN ATHLETICS (JV) 44, FAITH CHRISTIAN 0: MARIETTA — Faith Christian Academy lost its first 11-man football game in school history 44-0 Friday against the Crown Athletics JV to end the season.

The Lions (3-4), which lost their second in a row, have up until now always played 8-man football. The highlight of the season for FCA was a three-game winning streak in the middle of the season.
