Willis signs with Wingate

Spalding High golf standout Carson Willis (front with pen), signed a national letter of Intent on Wednesday at SHS to play for NCAA Division II Wingate University, located in Wingate, N.C., next year. Joining Willis during a brief signing ceremony front row, from left: brother Colby Willis, mother Pat Willis and father Kim Willis. In the back row are SHS golf coach Rusty Hudson and SHS Principal Derrell Jeffcoat.

Willis, a senior, has helped guide the Jags to region championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as well as their best finish ever at state (third place) last year in addition to placing third the individual standings with an even-par 72 at Augusta Country Club. Willis was also a part of the team that fired a school-record 289 in the 2011 region championship tournament at Heron Bay. Willis also finished low medalist as an individual in the 2009 GISA state championship as an eighth-grader when he attended Griffin Christian.
