The Griffin Police Department (GPD) responded to a fight at the North Griffin Square along North Expressway Wednesday afternoon. When police officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with the victim - a 29-year-old female from Griffin - who was visibly shaking, according to a GPD incident report.

The victim stated to police that she had gone into the Citi Trends store to purchase some items when she noticed 31-year-old Telisa Kelly-Peavy, of Griffin. The victim further stated that Kelly-Peavy likewise noticed her and began following her through the store.

As Kelly-Peavy pursued the victim inside and outside the store, she reportedly told the victim, “I’m going to kick your (expletive).” The victim, meanwhile, had walked to her car and got in it.

Kelly-Peavy and another female - 20-year-old Courtney Johnson, of Griffin - had been following the victim to her car, and when the victim was trying to drive away, they reportedly started hitting the windows of the car, with Johnson kicking the vehicle and denting the front passenger side door.

A witness to the incident stated that as the victim left the area, Johnson yelled and cussed at the victim in the car.

Police then spoke to Johnson, who stated that the victim came into the store and said something “under her breath,” causing Kelly-Peavy to follow her. Johnson stated she tried to stop Kelly-Peavy, but when the victim told her she was going to “whoop her (expletive),” she went to the victim’s car and hit the window.

Police officers placed Johnson under arrest, noting in the report that Johnson started jumping and posturing in aggressive way when being detained.

Kelly-Peavy stated to officers that the victim told her in the store that she was going to “whip her (expletive).” She further stated that she was going after the victim, followed the victim to her car and started talking trash when she got there.

Kelly-Peavy said in her statement to police that the victim backed out while she was standing behind the car, adding that she believed this was intentional so as to hit her.

Police placed Kelly-Peavy under arrest as well after having determined that “Kelly-Peavy and Johnson had committed acts (that) placed (the victim) in reasonable apprehension of immediately receiving a violent injury.”

Kelly-Peavy was charged with simple assault. Johnson was charged with simple assault, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
