When police officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with the victim — a 53-year-old male from Griffin. The victim reported that he was inside the store to purchase some items. He received a $10 bill in change and walked out of the store with the bill in his hand.
According to a GPD incident report, the victim recalled a black male sitting on the hood of a car near the front entrance of the store, wearing a camouflage jacket and a baseball cap. The victim reportedly went around the building and crossed the railroad tracks to go to his brother’s house.
As the victim went around the corner, the same black male who was previously sitting on the hood of the car approached the victim, snatched the $10 bill out of his hand and took off running across the front of the store.
The victim stated he observed the male run to the first house west of Griffin Food Mart and followed him there. When he saw the male standing alongside the residence, he asked the male to give him his money back. The male reportedly ignored the victim and walked behind the residence. That’s when the victim called the police.
GPD officers checked the surrounding area but could not locate anyone matching the description provided by the victim. Police also attempted to make contact with someone inside the building to which the suspect ran, but no one came to the door, leading officers to conclude that the residence was possibly vacant.
In another incident, Griffin police responded to a location on East Central Avenue Monday around 7:15 p.m. in reference to shots being fired in the area. The 48-year-old female victim stated to GPD officers that after several gun shot were fired, the suspects came up to her window and front door and were knocking very hard. The victim further stated that she did not open the window or the front door because she was afraid.
According to a GPD incident report, several residents in the area heard the gun shots. Police searched the area but were unable to identify any suspects.
In yet another incident, the police department was dispatched to a residence on East Chappell Street Saturday at about 5 p.m. in reference to a burglary.
The victim — a 34-year-old male — advised officers that had left Griffin three days ago to be with his mother in Clayton County and when he returned Saturday, he found his front door damaged.
According to a GPD incident report, the victim proceeded inside the residence and noticed that the 50-inch television — valued at $1,400 — in his bedroom was gone. A 1,400-watt audio amplifier from his speaker box was missing, too. He also observed that a few things inside his residence had been tampered with.
As police officers walked through the residence to take photos of the scene, they noticed that the back door had numerous muddy shoe prints on it, as if someone had attempted to kick it in. The victim stated that he only locked the dead bolt on the back door, not the front.
Police checked some surfaces inside the residence but didn’t see any that could have been dusted for fingerprints.
