• How low down do you have to be to live in a fine new brick home and can afford insurance, but go to the Hope Health Clinic for the free services. The clinic needs to check the finances of the patients better rather than wasting services on liars.

• Mr. Jones and the school board, it is not the taxpayers fault you can’t make do with your budget. You friviously spend money year after year with money left over in your budget, new vehicles, building projects, office furnishings and so much more. You are taking advantage of the property owners by continually raising taxes and we are tired of it. Any rise in the millage rate is unacceptable. Cut all the administrative salaries that are above $70,000 per year, and really make an effort to cut out the waste at all schools, starting with energy conservation.

• If the county does not have the money to cover spending, our award winning county manager should cut spending instead of raising taxes on the people of Spalding County. He has already closed the garbage centers three days a week and it’s not saving money. He is spending the saved money elsewhere and it’s sure not on the roads in the county.

• Someone please inform taxpayers how much it cost for city and county take home vehicles. These vehicles, especially police and sheriff deputies, some are being driven as far away as 30-40 miles to and from home one way. Seems our leader wannabees would cut this out to save our tax dollars, but I forgot, they don’t care about us. They think they can keep picking our pockets.

• Mr. Smith, if you and your staff are such experts at the city needs, why do you hire consultants to make your discions for everything as simple as buying a roll of toilet paper?

• Griffin city government math: You are short of funds by 7 percent last year, just roll it over to this year and declare that your budget was 100 percent instead of being over budget. Glad you are not balancing my checking account.

• What part of “we don’t want a new airport” does the Airport Authority not understand?

• Airport and train, the elected and appointed leaders (?) keep pushing for these bottomless money pits after voters made it very plain that they did not want them.

• Interesting how all the Republican pundits are now trying to turn “crow” into “pheasant under glass,” with the arrogant and self-serving Matt Towery being among the worst, or most delusional. While this is predictable for the older crowd of Caucasian men who control the Grand Old Party, it’s safe to say that until they learn to eat a little crow and accept reality, they’ll keep believing it’s pheasant, and keep losing elections.

• Can it be true that crews from Southern Rivers Energy were told they were no longer needed after setting one pole in the Northeast that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy?

• When school officials discover a hungry child, feed that child. Do not put that child out of school for getting something extra to eat.

• I read the article about charter schools and the vote that passed it. I took exception to Chairman Westbury’s understanding that voters from Griffin/Spalding lacked intelligence to understand what was printed on the ballots, mainly because the vote didn’t go his way. Many voters have better knowledge and memory than you give them credit for.

• I need to inform the public that Dr. Lowery’s statement concerning all white people are going to hell. It’s just as racist as if a well-known white person had said it. No individual can take God’s authority about who goes to hell or not.

• All the Georgia Dawgs want for Christmas is for Coach Nick Saban to leave Alabama. Roll tide.

• They say they need to raise millage rates again to bring in the same amount of property taxes due to decreases in property values. I thought “roll back” meant less, not more.

• The new airport authority is looking for some financing. Maybe they could get that goat on TV that makes a money deposit on the carpet in the Keno commercial.

• Romney said he didn’t care about 47 percent of America; 52 percent of America said they didn’t care about Romney.

• Romney told his donors he lost because of Obama’s gifts to the young, Hispanics and African-Americans. Romney should have seen that coming since he only wanted to give gifts to the top 1 percent.

• “I’m not trying to play Santa Claus.” Maybe we need to remember those words from the late Paul Tsongas when he was running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1992. Too many people expect the government to be like Santa Claus doling out money without any thought about where the money comes from.

• Here is my vote for a tax for a new airport: No.

• People, especially Democratic Convention attendees, please do not boo the living God of Israel anymore nor try to remove Him from the platform program. Jesus Christ in the only one that can clean up this world’s mess and He is soon to return. Everyone should get ready and receive Him as Lord of Lords and King of Kings, not try to remove Him.

• Good thinking governor, you’re concerned about the federal government controlling our healthcare, so to teach Obama a lesson you are going to let him handle Georgia’s insurance exchange,

• A lot of effort goes into providing residents with the opportunity to vote and there are a number of ways offered so voters can cast their votes but 10,470 registered voters chose to sit on their lazy behinds and not vote in the Nov. 6 election. The county should purge their sorry names off the voter list since they are an insult and embarrassment to those folks that do vote.

Wow. Does one disgruntled individual speak for every citizen of Griffin Georgia. It really behooves me when people try to dominate the local politics and decisions that will affect the city and county as a whole.I have noticed that people who are so against change and new development only have their interests at heart and not the interests and needs of all citizens.Every one has different needs and desires and the needs of the masses should be addressed instead of the desires of a few. Furthermore, stop trying to relive the past and forge ahead to the future for our children and grandchildren sakes. Allow the new airport to be built in order for new industry to come and also allow public transportation to come back so that people who need jobs will be able to get back and forth to the jobs that new industry will create. Its time for the people to start speaking up for what is needed in Griffin and stop allowing anti-growth and anti-development spokesmen to determine the destiny of Griffin-Spalding Georgia.

Is there anything incongruent in a man having a Confederate flag in his front yard,

posting on Facebook that Georgia should secede, showing sympathy for all white, far right militia groups, shooting with his young son at a poster of our President, encouraging his young son to wear Confederate flag T shirts, waving an American flag on Veteran's Day and the 4th of July, singing God Bless America at the high school football games, wearing a cap reading "LOVE THE USA OR LEAVE IT", using a front tag on his truck of an old Rebel solider saying "Surrender, Hell!", and publicly carrying an exposed holster and Glock 45 (has a permit)?

Of course not.
