Mrs. Doris Mae Phillips was born June 15, 1929 in Birmingham, Ala. to Jessie Lee Price and Mary Lee Tucker. She passed at her residence to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Nov. 23, 2012.
Doris moved to Griffin in 1977 with her husband of 45 years, Leonard Phillips, of Akron, Ohio. They were married in St. Louis, Mo.
Survivors are her husband, Leonard; sons, Tyrrell Phillips, of Griffin, Donald Green and his wife Renee, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Theresa Green, of Atlanta; brother Willie Orr and his wife Betty, of Lorain, Ohio; uncle, James Price and his wife Susie, of Birmingham, Ala.; brother-in-law Edward L. Phillips and his wife Mary, of Griffin; nieces, nephews and cousin Shirley Ann Wyatt, of Akron, Ohio; and friends Cynthia Blalock, Pearlie Mae Compton, Jewell McCray, and Dorothy Gilbert.
During her working career, she loved working in customer service. She was a people person and a friend to all who met her in life. Doris worked in retail sales at Morrow-Powell, Famous-Barr, Macy’s, Dress for Less in Griffin, and many post exchange positions during her husband’s military service. She was a cosmetologist and passed the state board in Missouri in 1970. She was a pioneer in the Section 8 housing program when it started in Griffin many years ago.
She loved traveling with her husand Leonard in the military and was stationed in Saudi Arabia, England, and Germany. Their stateside assignments were San Francisco, Calif.; Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; and Fort Polk, La. She developed a love for fishing and you would find here sitting on the fish bank with many friends over the years. Doris was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 8480 Griffin for many years but remained active.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 8 Cheatham Road, Griffin with Pastor W.A. Hinton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 2-3 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Sidney C. Garrett
March 21, 1941—Nov. 26, 2012
Mr. Sidney C. Garrett, age 71 of Woodstock formerly of Griffin, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 at his daughter’s residence.
Mr. Garrett was born in Laurens County, Georgia on March 21, 1941. He was the 11th of 12 children born to Henry Wilson Garrett and Sallie Daniel Garrett. He had retired from the grocery business and from Haisten McCullough Funeral home and Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. He attended North Griffin Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sherree G. and Jay Crowell of Woodstock; son and daughter-in-law Patrick C. and Cindy Garrett of Atlanta; grandchildren, Erin Ricks and husband Jason, Megan Floyd and husband Greg, Nicholas Garrett; great granddaughter, Kylie Grace Floyd; sisters, Pearl Foster of Barnesville, Grace Gilder of Dublin; brothers, Darrell Garrett of Byron, GA, Daniel Garrett of Milton, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service for Sidney Garrett will be conducted on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Gene Luke will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Kidney Fund, 72 Edgewood Avenue, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30303 in memory of Sidney.

Mr. Kenneth J. (Kenny) “Roodie” Bridges, 50, of Williamson, GA died Saturday November 24, 2012 at his residence.
The funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday November 27, 2012 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Austin Glass officiating.
Mr. Bridges was born on February 14, 1962 to James J. and Jacqueline Hill Bridges in Sylvester. Mr. Bridges had lived in Moultrie most of his life before moving to Williamson, GA. He was a self-employed carpenter. He loved building bird houses, fishing and spending time in the mountains. Mr. Bridges served in the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Jeannie Bridges of Williamson; mother, Jacqueline H. Bridges of Griffin; sisters, Susie Thompson (Stacey) of Blairsville, Cindy Shelton (Dennis) of Moultrie, Mary Bridges of Braselton, Melissa Dowdy (Travis) of Griffin, sister–in-law, Debbie Bridges of Moultrie and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his father, James J. Bridges and a brother Frank Bridges.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service hour at Banks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kathleen Bazzell Smoot, age 89 of Concord, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Smoot was born in Deatsville, Alabama, on January 1, 1923. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Marx Bazzell and Mary Davis Bazzell; husband, Beecher Smoot; son, Lendon Smoot; granddaughter, DeAnne Smoot Melton; and grandson, Daniel Kent. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church in Pike County.
Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie Smoot Gills and her husband Joel, Vicki Smoot Kent and her husband Jerry; son, James Smoot and his wife Emma; grandchildren, Jason Kent, Katrina Fowler and her husband, Ryan; great-grandchildren, Damion Kent, Josh Melton and Chris Melton; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Kathleen Bazzell Smoot will be on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, following the visitation a memorial service will be conducted in the chapel with Reverend James Wilson and Reverend Tommy Smith officiating.
