All three suspects in a Nov. 15, gang-related shooting are now in custody.

Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator Capt. Tony Ranieri said all three of the suspects identified in a press release earlier Tuesday are now in jail. Ranieri said Josef Elgers and Dion Jester were arrested by the Union City Police Department after going through a safety check point.

Elgers is currently being held in the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and Jester provided authorities in Union City with a false name and currently being held in Union City on those charges. Jester will be sent to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center once Union City Police have concluded their investigation, Ranieri said.

The third suspect, Michael Lyons turned himself in to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and was transported to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Criminal arrest warrants were issued for Josef Lee Elgers, 18, of 444 Kara Lane, McDonough; Christopher Dion Jester, 19, of 205 Cody Drive, Griffin; and Michael Fitzgerald Lyons, 22, of 1116 West Broad St., Griffin, on charges of aggravated assault and Georgia Street Gang Act violations.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred about 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, at a convenience store, Gerera Grocery, 1245 North Hill St. Deputies with the Uniformed Patrol Division responded to a shooting call at the location and learned that a person had been shot.

Deputies located two victims with one having a gunshot wound and another having been beaten about his body, requiring medical attention. Both were treated by medical personnel on the scene and later transported to the Spalding Regional Hospital, according the Sheriff’s Office.

Some gang members produced hand guns and shots were fired. Ranieri said, “the fight started when two rival gangs showed up at the same location.”
