The annual Christmas parade and the city’s tree lighting will both be at night this year.

In what Griffin Main Street’s Kira Harris-Braggs called “the perfect winter storm,” all of the holiday events will culminate on one night, Saturday, Dec. 1, bringing everyone to the Park at Sixth to welcome the holiday season.

The Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce will host its 50th Annual Christmas parade, “Christmas Night of Lights,” the downtown merchants and restaurants will host a special “Home for the Holidays Open House” and the annual “Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting” will all be free and open to the public.

In addition, the Griffin Main Street Program, in partnership with the Downtown Griffin Business Alliance, will host an outdoor Mistletoe Market at the Park at Sixth, complete with vendors, a hot cocoa bar, mule cart rides, marshmallow toasting, and a children’s area where the elected officials will distribute candy to the crowd.

The Mistletoe Market will run from 5 to 8:30 p.m., and promises great fun for the entire family, she said.

The parade begins at 6 p.m., down Taylor Street from Chick-fil-A to the old Taylor Street Middle School. Elected officials will not be handing out candy due to safety concerns with the parade being at night, but there will be tables at the Park at Sixth where elected officials will hand out candy.

The tree lighting will be at 8 p.m. at City Hall by the Customer Service entrance on Hill Street.
