Mr. Buron Walter Hammond

Mr. Buron Walter Hammond, 87 of Griffin, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at the Spalding Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 15, 1925 to the late Carl Hammond and Leila Bell Cook Hammond. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 33 ½ years with 17 missions over Vietnam, Germany, France, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Korea and Thailand, earning 23 medals including Valor, Meritorious Service, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Hammond was a 40-year Shriner to the 32nd degree. He was preceded in death by sisters, Myrtle Davis and Laverne Carroll.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Ann Hammond of Griffin; daughter, Sandra Golden of Fayetteville; son, Michael Hammond of Atlanta; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Hammond of Marietta, Raymond Hammond of Newnan; sister, Brenda Tulley of Breman; good friend, Jessica Snyder of McDonough.

Funeral services for Mr. Buron Walter Hammond will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. The Rev. Barry Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fayetteville Shriners Club, 114 Ellis Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30214, in memory of Mr. Hammond.

Janie L. Cook

Died Dec. 18, 2012

Janie L. Cook of Atlanta, passed away on Dec. 18, 2012 at the age of 78. The daughter of the late Lloyd Cook and Janie Marie Goggans Cook, she is survived by a host of cousins. She was born in Griffin, where she graduated from Griffin-Spalding High School in 1951.

Ms. Cook, known to everyone as “Cookie,” obtained her nursing degree from Piedmont School of Nursing in 1954 and was employed by Piedmont Hospital until her retirement in 1989 as the charge nurse on the 11-7 shift on the labor and delivery suite. She was a super nurse in every way, well respected by doctors, nurses, and patients because of her nursing skill, experience, dedication, and caring attitude. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 in the chapel of Connor Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in College Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Griffin from 11 a.m. until service time. Mr. Jack Boulger Adams Sr.

Mr. Jack Boulger Adams, Sr., 85, of Griffin, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at his residence.

Mr. Adams was born May 23, 1927, son of the late John Charles Adams and the late Nannie Victoria Lyon Adams. He was a member of Griffin First Baptist Church and a veteran of the Merchant Marines. Mr. Adams was retired business owner in Griffin. He was preceded in death by his son, Jack B. Adams, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Gaye C. Adams of Griffin; daughters and son-in-law, Lana Adams Jones of Peachtree City, Nancy and John Buchanan of Greeneville, TN; grandchildren, Ashley & Brian Taylor of Griffin, Kemp & Rachel Buchanan of Gainesville, Fla., Ansley and Cary Goen of Griffin, Jack B. Adams, III of Griffin, Brandon N. and Gui Young Adams of Seoul, South Korea, Amanda and Chad Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Karen Brooke Adams of Atlanta and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack Boulger Adams, Sr. will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the Griffin First Baptist Church. Dr. Bill Hardee will officiate. Entombment will follow in Westwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be directed to First Baptist Church 106 West Taylor Street Griffin, GA 30224 in memory of Mr. Adams.
