It was GISA No. 4 state-ranked Griffin Christian’s eighth win in a row, making them 15-6 overall and 6-1 in region play. The Crusaders are tied with No. 5 Arlington Christian for first place in the region standings.
Third-place Furtah falls to 12-9, 5-2.
“We were on fire in the first quarter. We really got after it at the start and that set the tone for the entire game,” said Crusaders head coach Mic Savage.
The Crusaders used their hot start to race to a 29-17 lead after the first quarter and they led 44-35 at the half. Good defense and excellent execution on offense led to a 67-47 advantage for GC heading into the fourth quarter.
Wil Savage stuffed the stat sheet for the Crusaders with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists. He hit 4 treys in the first quarter.
Aaron McCray tallied 15 points and 4 assists, Jonathan Hammond scored 12 points, dished out 4 assists, snagged 5 rebounds and had 8 steals and Amir Hightower chipped in 9 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and 7 deflections.
“We played well defensively against Furtah and that was really good to see,” coach Savage said. “It’s great to get a big win like that at Furtah.”
The Crusaders host Arlington Christian (15-2, 6-1) in a battle for sole possession of first place on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Furtah 46, Griffin Christian 40 (girls):
The Griffin Christian Lady Crusaders lost their seventh straight game Tuesday evening, falling to the Furtah Prep Lady Falcons 46-40 in GISA Region 4-AA action in the early game.
GC falls to 7-13 overall and 1-6 in region play while Furtah improves to 3-14, 1-6.
GC trailed 14-6 after the first quarter and 22-19 at half. Furtah broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Crusaders 14-6 to lead 36-25 heading into the fourth.
Brittany Foster scored 10 points to lead the Lady Crusaders. Katy Hammond added 8 points, 4 assists and 7 steals and Chelsey Deaton chipped in 8 for GC, which hosts GISA No. 1 state-ranked Arlington Christian (11-4, 7-0) Friday at 6 p.m.
