Leadership Griffin/Spalding 2013 is scheduled to start on Friday, with the local chamber of commerce accepting applications until Thursday. It will then meet every other week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until graduation on May 2.
According to the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce, the primary goal of the program is to identify future leaders and relate to them the issues confronting the community. The class, which has been held for more than 20 years, is geared toward individuals who are concerned about the future of the community and committed to personal involvement shaping its future.
During the bi-weekly meetings, participants will learn about a variety of aspects of the community, ranging from government to business to education. They will also go out on trips to places such as the homeless shelter, the Hope Health Clinic, Griffin High School, Spalding High School and the UGA-Griffin campus, said Cindy Jones, office staff member of the local chamber.
“It’s a hands-on program,” Jones said.
Leadership Griffin/Spalding 2013 is limited to 25 participants. The cost of the program is $250, which includes the expenses for trips and lunch during each meeting.
