The Griffin Ducks Unlimited has three special offers this month for those who purchase wood duck boxes or bluebird houses. If you buy one wood duck box for $30 you will get a bluebird house for free ($15 savings), or you can order five wood duck boxes (normally $150) for $100 or five bluebird houses (normally $75) for $50.

Ducks Unlimited is the largest waterfowl conservation organization in North and South America. It started in 1937 when the waterfowl population was almost extinct.

It is not an anti-hunting program but an extremely aggressive preservation program with millions acres in the United States and Canada. Ducks Unlimited is also aggressive in the Northern Waterfowl Conservation Project, which the U.S. Government supports.

The Griffin Ducks Unlimited was the second chapter in Georgia and has helped to donate more than $1.4 million to the National DU. The Griffin DU has made more than 500 wood duck boxes and over 550 bluebird houses since the chapter started in 1982.

The projects have been used in Griffin and surrounding areas to enhance the ecosystem.

Wal-Mart gives us grants to buy the rough cypress wood, Lowe’s donates the nails and Home Depot the treated deck screws. Adults do all the cutting and sawing while Scout troops, the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls after school programs, church groups and others volunteers help assemble the houses.

All of the profits are put back in the Griffin community.
