Spalding High tennis teams open season with a sweep

FORSYTH — The Greg Crawford-coached Spalding High tennis teams opened the season Tuesday on the road with a sweep of Mary Persons, the Lady Jags winning 4-1 and Jags following suit at 5-0.

Scoring points for the Jags (1-0) were: Brett Piland 8-0 at No. 1 singles, Colby Willis 8-0 at No. 2 singles, Hez Apperson 8-0 at No. 3 singles, Daniel Blake and Barrett Lavender 8-0 at No. 1 doubles and James Dunaway and Benjamin Parker 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Scoring points for the Lady Jags (1-0) were: Caroline Hearn 8-5 at No. 1 singles, MacKenzie Dallas 8-6 at No. 2 singles, Hayley Bair 8-3 at No. 3 singles, and Kayley Cook and Jessica Howell 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Spalding’s home opener on Thursday against Newnan was rained out and rescheduled for March 4.

The Jags and Lady Jags continue their season with a pair of home matches next week at 4:30 p.m. Monday against First Presbyterian Day School and at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against LaGrange.
