— Message to ESPN: Americans hate soccer and we hate communist countries. So, stop showing European League soccer matches on TV.
— This city has a lot of crime, and now the city keeps passing laws that make it easier for people to get drunk. Now, the city is allowing people to carry around growlers. This is just what we need: Prowlers with growlers.
— I mentioned a bus route for Sun City to a friend that lives there, and she asked why they would need a bus route when they all have cars and many have golf carts. I couldn’t give her a reasonable answer, so can someone else answer her?
— You can tell how important the rebuilding of the Sixth Street bridge was because it has been closed for almost 18 months and no one even noticed.
— Help me out here. Are you telling me all the metal work on top of the new bridge is only for looks? It don’t look that good.
— Great architectural structures of the world: the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, and the best of all, the new Spalding County Senior Center.
— In response to the person that vented in My Two Cents about some Griffin Country Club members they saw in a local buffet restaurant that appeared that they never had been in a buffet restaurant, those people were my neighbors that live near me on Wesley Drive.
— On the front page of the Feb. 13 Griffin Daily News, I noticed the Arbor Day event that will be celebrated on Monday. That reminded me that in years past some of the local businessmen got together and sponsored a tree giveaway for Griffin residents. Since the tornado came through here in 2011, many of the residents lost hundreds of trees. Insurance does not help to replace those trees lost, and it would be great if the local businessmen would start that tradition back up to help with those that lost so many.
— He offers free “stuff,” but his policies will make more poor. Example — his handing out free cellphones. You got ’em free, but I got poorer.
— Turn your vehicle lights on, at dawn and dusk, also when raining, or other conditions when you need to see oncoming vehicles. Use your turn signals well ahead of your planned turn, lane change, etc. On multi-lane roads (Highway 16) “normal” driving should be in the right lane.
— Rain delays opening bridge. As I recall, it was very important it be rebuilt. Appears it’s more important to delay opening while our governing muck-a-mucks wait for sunshine.
— We will keep politics out of the airport and run it like a business. Being one of the majority who disfavor the new empire-building joke, I’m wondering how you’ll do that now that you’re required to include elected representatives.
— Pfc. Byars came to Spalding today. The long missing Korean War vet traveled with an impressive procession. I parked along Highway 16 in the light rain and observed some 50 motorcycle riders, many blue-light vehicles, several ambulances and families. Impressive, but I’m thinking Bobby would rather have been standing next to me. A meaningful welcome home.
— 150 years ago, President Abraham Lincoln issued the then very controversial Emancipation Proclamation. I’m amazed how little we hear about that benchmark event.
— Obama is the greatest thing to ever happen to this country. These rich, racist Republicans can just get over it.
— Can anyone around here do anything without wanting to get recognized for it? It makes me wonder if people really care or whether they do this stuff so they can get honored for the stuff they do.
— Congratulations, Republican Gov. Deal for wanting to lower the GPA for the HOPE. I’m glad you know how important it is for everybody to have the opportunity to indicate they know nothing about something. If you really wanted to do something for everybody, though, you would do away with the GPA requirement for a HOPE Scholarship.
— To the person who wrote in that they would be glad to see the Falcons leave Atlanta. You must be an idiot. Do you know how much revenue the Falcons generate for Atlanta and the state of Georgia? I am not for taxpayer dollars to keep them in Atlanta, but at the same time, I would hate to see them leave.
— Guns are the worst blight on our society. It’s obvious they need to be banned because of all the shootings.
— What’s the difference between an SEC football fan and a preschooler? The preschooler has a higher IQ.
— My Two Cents contributors all must live in the nut house, based on the crazy comments I read.
— I saw where wrestling is not going to be an Olympic sport. Thank goodness, because that WWE stuff is not real anyway. I applaud the Olympics for taking a stand against this so-called “sport.”
— These sissy wimps in Washington better not try to take my guns.
