The seventh annual Ross Invitational track and field meet is slated for Saturday at the Lamar County Comprehensive High School track and field complex in Barnesville.

Griffin High is hosting the 14-team meet which includes not only Griffin High but also Spalding High, Lamar County, Jackson, Twiggs County, Douglas County, Carver-Atlanta, Northgate, Southwest DeKalb, Westside-Macon, Locust Grove, Hillgrove and Stockbridge.

It is the season-opening match for Spalding High, while it’s the second for Griffin, which has already participated in a meet at East Coweta in Sharpsburg two weeks ago.

The Ross Invitational, named after legendary Griffin High track and field coach Erwin Ross, started in 2006. It was held at GHS every year until 2011 when it switched to Barnesville. Ironically it was rained out in 2011, but resumed last year with the sixth annual invitational.
