Deacon Jackie Holmes was born July 1, 1937, in Spalding County to the late Mrs. Marie Tyus and the late Mr. John Miller. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Lee Holmes.
In 1956, he joined the United States Army. He was a combat engineer and received a Good Conduct Medal award.
He was employed at Dundee Mills No. 1 for 38 years and retired as a weave room supervisor.
Deacon Holmes was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and served in many capacities. He honored and loved his Pastor and First Lady, the Rev. and Mrs. John Adams. He also loved the church family. Deacon Holmes was an inspiration to many who knew him. He was loved by young and old.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, our heavenly Father summoned Deacon Holmes to his eternal resting place and ended his earthly labor.
He leaves to cherish in loving memories a wife of 17 years (27 years together), Mrs. Carolyn E. Holmes; two sons, Minister Jackie Andre Holmes (Jennifer), Mr. Darries S. Lemons; two daughters, Mrs. Belliza Lusane, Mehalia C. Willis (Leroy); goddaughter, Ms. Ester Watts (Michael); 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Mr. Willie Tyus, Fred Miller (Nellie Pearl), John Douglas Miller (Janie), Ernest Miller; three sisters, Wyomia Tyus Tillman (Dwayne), Betty Lou Simmons (Tim), Gracie Mae Robinson (Larry); mother-in-law, Mattie Bell Fuller; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rosa Green, Mrs. Clifferdine Respress; brothers-in-law, Mr. David Fuller (Margret), Mr. Larry Fuller (Vickey), Mr. John Fuller Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Deacon Jackie Holmes, of 197 Connally Place, Griffin, will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Corintih Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Pastor John Adams will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be at the funeral home Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service. The cortege will assemble at 10 a.m from the residence.

Mrs. Brenda Jackson (BJ) Tribble, 71, of Griffin, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Tribble was born on June 27, 1941 in Griffin, Georgia to the late Albert Henry Jackson and the late Mattie Fox Jackson. She is also preceded in death by son, Brian Tribble. Mrs. Tribble retired from General Electric in Birmingham, AL after 34 years with the company. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church where she volunteered in the church office, starting an email prayer requests for the church through email, and a member of Bible Searchers Sunday School Class. Hobbies included working in her yard and reading.
Survivors include her son, David Tribble and his wife, Laura of Atlanta; 7 grandchildren, Katelyn Tribble, Mckinley Tribble, Jake Tribble, Bailey Tribble, all of Springville, AL, Caroline Tribble, Elizabeth Tribble and Catherine Tribble, all of Atlanta, GA; brother, Sam Jackson of Griffin; nephew, Henry Jackson and his wife, Annette; and several cousins.
A memorial service for Mrs. Brenda Jackson (BJ) Tribble will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Dr. David Hill and Reverend Jim Cannady will officiate. Friends may visit the family following the service. Mrs. Emma Lucille Thrower, 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Westbury Medical Care Home, Jackson, GA.
Mrs. Thrower was born in Manchester, Georgia on June 26, 1927. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thrower, her parents, Lucy and Jerome Huckaby, brother, Edward Huckaby, aunt and uncle who raised her, Emma and Alma Bond; a daughter, Judy Watts who passed away in February, grandson, Christopher Yeoman, 2 great granddaughters, Aislyn Cinnamon and Isabelle Johnson, son-in-law, Charles Howard.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Linda Howard of Flovilla, Ann and Jimmy Watts of Griffin; son-in-law Steve Watts of Jackson; granddaughter, Christy Thrower Nasworthy; grandsons, Melvin Howard, Dwayne Howard, Woody Howard, Michael Martin, Russell Johnson; 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Lucille Thrower will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Mr. Danny Thomas Upchurch, 59, of Griffin, Ga., passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Upchurch was born in Griffin, Ga., on Sept. 12, 1953, to the late Cecil Upchurch and Lucille M. Upchurch Cleveland. He was also preceded in death by an infant son. He was a caregiver for his family and brought love and laughter to all.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Tucker Upchurch of Griffin; sons, Daniel and Mickey Upchurch of Griffin; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Wayne Golden of Greenville, Ga., Melisa and Brian Speegle of Griffin; mother, Lucille M. Cleveland of Griffin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Ione Upchurch of Whitesburg, Ga., Jimmy and Ann Upchurch, Ricky Upchurch of Griffin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; family friend, Kim Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
