The Griffin High tennis team split with visiting Dutchtown on Wednesday in Region 4-AAAA tennis action, the Bears losing 3-2 and Lady Bears winning 4-1.

Rebecca Rose Hill (8-2), Sarah Mallett (8-0) and Forrest Dukes (8-4) swept No. 1-3 singles and Sarah Brown and Priscilla Perez (8-4) prevailed at No. 1 doubles as the Lady Bears (3-2 overall, 2-1 region) won for the second time in the last three matches as Dutchtown (1-3, 1-2) lost its third in a row.

Randy Chastain rallied to win 8-6 at No. 1 singles, and Taric Jones and Cameron Powell prevailed 8-3 at No. 2 doubles for the Bears (1-4, 1-2) as Griffin lost its second in a row and Dutchtown (3-1, 3-0) remained unbeaten in region play. Griffin just missed a chance to win the match, losing 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

Both Griffin High varsity tennis teams picked up their first Region 4-AAAA wins of the season Thursday last week at Stockbridge, the Bears prevailing 4-1 and Lady Bears 5-0 only 48 hours after each losing their region opening match 3-2 at home against Upson-Lee.

Scoring points against Stockbridge for the Bears were: Mahlon Robinson and Bradley Durden at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, as well as the No. 1 doubles team of Ricky Lewis and Christian Hughley and the No. 2 doubles team of Taric Jones and Cameron Powell.

Scoring points against Stockbridge for the Lady Bears were: Rebecaa Rose Hill, Sarah Mallett and Forrest Dukes in No. 1-3 singles respectively, and Priscilla Perez and Sarah Brown at No. 1 doubles and Kalesia Henderson and Jenny Paz at No. 2 doubles.

GHS was swept by Amercius on the road Saturday, the Bears falling 4-1 and Lady Bears 3-2. Bradley Durden, at No. 3 singles, scored the Bears only point. Scoring points for the Lady Bears were Sarah Mallett at No. 2 singles and Forrest Dukes at No. 3 singles.

Griffin continues its season with a region match 4:30 p.m., today at home against Riverdale.
