Wimbush scored 8:32 into the match off a corner kick, and Jeffcoat iced it by scoring on the second consecutive rebound off the post 1:58 into the second half as Class AAAA Spalding (3-0) remained undefeated and Class A First Presbyterian Day (3-3) lost its second in a row and for the third time in the last three matches.
It was more than enough scoring on a night where Spalding’s defense limited First Presbyterian Day to six shots. Strnad was more than up to the task, making a save on the only shot he faced on net.
Spalding has not outscored its first three opponents by a combined margin of 10-0.
The Jags now take on Mary Persons High School (4-0), the host team, 8 a.m., Saturday in a second-round game before capping the tournament with another game late Saturday afternoon.
