The Jaguars (4-1), which opened the tournament with a 2-0 win Thursday against First Presbyterian Day, headed into the consolation-round match trying to put their first loss of the season, a 2-1 setback to Mary Persons in tournament action only hours earlier on Saturday morning, behind them.
Toward that end, Patrick Marcoux scored 15:19 into the match.
Class AAAA Spalding gutted it out from there on an afternoon where they outshot Class AAAAA Northside-Warner Robins (4-3-1) by a 12-8 margin, though they limited the Eagles to only two shots on goal while managing, themselves, to hit the mark nine times.
SHS keeper Peter Strnad was up to the task, stopping both shots.
The Jags even enjoyed a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Spalding (4-1 overall, 1-0 region) continues its season 5:30 p.m., today when it jumps backs into Region 4-AAAA play hosting Dutchtown (2-2, 2-0) at Memorial Stadium in Griffin before hitting the road Friday to take on Woodland-Stockbridge (3-3, 2-0).
