After receiving numerous complaints about the selling of alcohol on Sunday, the Griffin Police Department (GPD) Special Investigations Unit executed six drug- and alcohol-related search warrants Sunday afternoon and made nine arrests.

Arrested were Selmon Williams and Ronald Head for possession of a drug-related object; Rodrickus Rolley, possession of cocaine and less than an ounce of marijuana; Jesse Williamson, Lavonda Smith, Randy Pope, Shwanda King and Juanita Williams for sale of alcohol, zoning ordinance violation, occupation tax and sale without a license; and Marcus Williams for obstruction. King was also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Much of the illegal alcohol seized during the operation came from four separate locations — 738 Meriwether St., 518 N. 13th St., 412 W. Quilley St. and 626 Ellis St.

Approximately 15 crack cocaine rocks and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana were seized from apartments 4 and 5 at 219 Oak St.

Assisting in the execution of the warrants and subsequent arrests were the GPD Special Response Team and Crime Suppression Unit as well as the Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force.

Later Sunday evening, SIU agents conducted an undercover drug operation at the Liberty Gas Station, 701 W. Taylor St., and arrested Joseph Forbes for the possession of a distribution amount of cocaine and seized a 1993 Lexus.
