The busiest week of the local summer sports season begins today with the pro-am portion of the 16th annual Carter’s Griffin Classic.

It’ll end six days from now with a flurry of activities including state GRPA championships in 12-and-under baseball and 14-and-under softball in addition to the Griffin Gators annual Swim Invitational and Georgia Games venues in BMX Cycling, 5-meter BB Rifle, Rimfire and Cowboy Action Shoot.

The actual Griffin Classic golf tournament, a Georgia PGA Section event which is being played at the Griffin Country Club, begins Monday and concludes Tuesday.

The GRPA championships will be conducted at Wyomia Tyus Park in baseball and Volunteer Park in softball, while the Gators Invitational will take place at City Park and the BMX competition will be staged at the Griffin Speedway. Shooting venues will take place at the Ole Mill Range and Griffin Gun Club.
