The Griffin-Spalding County School System is inviting parents to return to school on Monday, Oct. 15, to visit their child’s teachers from 2 to 6 p.m. Regular school classes will not be held that day because it is a student holiday.

A bonus for parents coming to school that day is receiving their child’s report card early before the official distribution on Thursday, Oct. 18.

“We are changing the format of parent-teacher conferences slightly,” Griffin-Spalding County School System Superintendent Jesse Bradley said. “In the past we have tried to compress conferences with parents into four hours one afternoon.

“This year we are inviting parents to drop in to schools and talk briefly to teachers in order to schedule a more in-depth meeting at the convenience of both to discuss their child’s progress,” he said.

“Many times parents have already been contacted by teachers or have contacted teachers with concerns before our formal parent day in October,” he said. “On October 15, they would just touch base with the teacher or teachers to check on progress. Other parents who have not been in contact with teachers since open house can see the teacher face-to-face again to find out if a follow-up conference is necessary.”
