Lady Bears fall; Bears rebound

ATLANTA - Tank Sessions scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Shaq Barber scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Griffin High Bears rebounded from a 60-50 opening-round loss Thursday with a 64-51 win Friday against Lithonia in the second round of the Peach State Holiday Classic at Morehouse College.

Griffin (4-7) led Lithonia (1-9) by a count of 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, 32-23 at the half and 45-36 at the end of the third before outscoring them 21-15 in the final quarter.

The victory broke a two-game losing streak for the Bears which started with an 86-68 loss to Creekside in the final round of the Pro Players Classic on Dec. 22 at The House in which GHS had eight technical fouls for various offenses.

But Griffin, which advances to a third-round game 5:05 p.m. today against Class AA No. 2-state ranked Southwest Atlanta Christian (10-2) in the tournament, was further aided Friday by the play of Shledon Hancock (10 points and 8 rebounds) and Oscar Moore (9 rebounds).

The Griffin High Lady Bears (5-4) were trying Friday night in a late game to get in the win column at the tournament against Class AAAA Heritage (7-3) after a 68-43 loss to Class AAAAA No. 3-state ranked Douglass the night before.

Kristian Williams led the Lady Bears with 17 points, while teammate Tedra Alford added 13.
