Qualifying gets under way for July primary

Candidate qualifying for the July 15 general primary will begin Monday, April 28 at 9 a.m. in the Office of Elections and Voter Registration (Room 110 of the Spalding County Courthouse Annex).

The qualifying period ends Friday, May 2 at noon.

Candidates for the following offices will qualify with either the Democratic or Republican party:

— Clerk of Superior Court (currently held by Marcia Norris)

— Sheriff (currently held by  Dee Stewart)

— Tax Commissioner (currently held by Sylvia Hollums)

— Coroner (currently held by Sonny Foster)

— County Commissioner District 1 (currently held by Gwen Flowers-Taylor)

— County Commissioner District 3 (currently held by Johnie McDaniel)

— County Commissioner District 4 (currently held by Eddie Freeman)

Local candidates for the Georgia General Assembly and District Attorney must qualify at the State Capitol in Atlanta.
