Members of Griffin Moose Family Center No. 1503 are hoping for a big turnout for Thursday’s blood drive as the American Red Cross seeks to bolster its blood supplies ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

Donors will be eligible to enter a drawing for a trip to Hollywood. The grand prize is two Delta Air Lines round-trip tickets, a free two-night hotel stay and a tour of Universal Studios. Donors will also be registered for gift certificates.

Mike Rudderham, community service chairman for the Griffin Moose Family Center, said blood supplies at the Red Cross are low because recent storms caused many blood drives to be canceled.

“We’re just trying to get more people in, to give more,” Rudderham said.

The blood drive will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Griffin Moose Lodge at the intersection of Zebulon Road and Moose Lodge Drive. Each donor will receive a Red Cross umbrella.

Rudderham said the Moose Family Life Center hopes to collect 50 pints at the event. Last year the organization’s blood drives collected 213 pints.

“We’re trying to beat that this year,” he said.

The Moose Family Life Center takes part in a number of community service projects. Members also visit nursing homes, and the organization has sponsored the Spalding County 4-H horse drill team and youth sports teams.
