Mrs. Shirley Bowden, 62, of Griffin, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Bowden was born Sept. 9, 1946, in Spalding County to the late J.D. Wilson and the late Flora Crowder. She was the wife of the late Joel Bowden of Griffin. Mrs. Bowden was retired from The Kroger Company and had formerly worked at Morgan & Morgan Company. She was a member of the Women’s Bowling League, the U.S. Bowling Conference and helped with G.A.R.C.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Maurice (Pete) Shankle of Orlando, Fla.; son, Mike Bottoms of Griffin; grandchildren, Kristi Smith of Arkansas, and Todd Pratt, Tyler Bottoms and Alex Bottoms of Griffin; stepfather, Leon Crowder of Griffin; and brother, Jasper (Butch) Wilson of Tacoma, Wash.

Funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Bowden will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Dr. Keith Wesley will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
