Three area football players are expected to sign National Letters of Intent today, National Signing Day.
Spalding tight end Najee Leftwich will ink 10:30 a.m., at SHS with Alabama State in Montgomery. Ala., while Griffin defensive back Greg Worthy will ink with Furman University in Greenville, S.C., and linebacker Kentorius “Scoop” Jackson will ink with Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., each during a 2 p.m., ceremony at GHS
A fourth area football player, Spalding High split end Travis Lee, has been made an offer by Wingate University in North Carolina, near Charlotte, but decided to hold off for now.
Other area players who could sign in recent days or weeks include:
n Willie Hamm, safety/receiver Spalding High is being courted by several junior colleges.
n Sheldon Hancock, fullback, Griffin High is being courted by Navy Prep.
n Rodnekus Lindsey, linebacker, Griffin High is being courted by Dean Junior College (Mass.) and Georgia Military.
n Nhyjal Sims, Center, Griffin High is being courted by Dean Junior College and Holmes College (Miss.).
The three expected to ink today represents a large increase from a season ago when only one area player - Griffin High defensive end Toby Jackson, Kentorius Jackson’s brother - signed with the University of Georgia. Toby Jackson, the unanimous selection for Class AAAA state Player of the Year, ended up playing at Hargrave Military in Virginia last season where he worked on getting academically eligible for UGA.
