An elderly woman was taken by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta after being accidentally run over.

According to a press release from the Griffin Police Department, Willie Edward Farr, 86, was leaving his Ridge Street residence with his wife Mary Farr, 83. He began backing down the driveway after believing his wife was in the vehicle.

“He thought she was in the car and she wasn’t in the car,” said Cpl. Bryan Clanton of the Griffin Police Department.

When the vehicle began moving, she was not completely in the vehicle and was dragged underneath.

She was alert and conscious when Griffin police officers arrived on the scene. She sustained injuries to her lower extremities and, due to her age, was taken to Grady by Emory Life-Flight.

Officers have determined the incident was an accident and no charges will be filed.
