Lauren Barlow scored a goal 50 seconds into the match on an assist from Myra Fisher to give the Lady Jags a 1-0 lead over region foe Rutland Friday and they never looked back, defeating Rutland 8-0 Friday in a game that was declared a final Monday.

Three minutes later, Patricia-Anne Upson scored on an assist from Madison Stewart. With 30:37 left in the half, Marisa Leary scored on an assist from Barlow. And, with 25 min left, freshman Myra Fisher scored. Spalding then got goals from Barlow, Leary (on an assist from Margaret Tatum), Morgan McKneely and Barlow.

Rutland didn’t get into Spalding territory. Lady Jags keeper Abby Stephens managed several errant balls that were kicked long distance into the penalty area.

SPALDING BOYS LOSE 2-0 TO WOODWARD ACADEMY: The Spalding boys team played hard, but lost to Woodward Academy 2-0 Monday evening.

“It was one of our better games of the season,” said Jags head coach Scott Henderson. "Defensively, we played okay, but they were able to find space and score their goals."

Henderson praised keeper Patrick Rafferty for making great saves in the contest.

The boys will make up the match with Rutland at 5:30 today at Spalding High.
