A Griffin man was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute after a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

The Griffin Police Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU) stopped a car, driven by Hilliard Lanier Ward II, 22, 213 Cody Drive, at the corner of N. 16th Street and Wright Street around 2:30 a.m. for failure to maintain lane.

During the stop, SIU investigators reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Upon conducting a search, an Air Jordan shoe box was found in the right front floorboard. Inside the box was an pair of Air Jordan shoes containing 55 grams of powdered cocaine.

The cocaine has an approximately street value of $3,600.

Ward was arrested and transported to the Spalding County Jail.
