According to Lamar County Sheriff Larry Waller, two individuals were arrested Thursday on drug-related charges.

While working traffic enforcement on I-75, deputies with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office ICE (Interstate Criminal Enforcement) Team conducted a stop that resulted in the seizure of approximately 22 pounds of marijuana.

Officials say the seized drugs was grown hydroponically — marijuana grown indoors using a hydroponic system of tubes and filters with water and fertilizers, using little, if any, dirt.

Authorities say this type of marijuana would generally carry a street value of $112,000.00.

Aylet Dominguez-Alvarez and Anthony Santana were arrested and transported to the Lamar County Detention Center where the remain in custody as investigators await warrants for trafficking marijuana which, upon conviction, carries a mandatory minimum sentence of imprisonment for five years and a fine of $100,000.
