Spalding County Little League baseball sign-ups are now under way for ages 3-18. Fee is $100 per child. You must have birth certificate and parent/guardian ID to sign up.

January sign-ups will be held at Ambucs Park Gym (upstairs) from 6-8 p.m., every Friday and from 10 a.m.-2p.m., every Saturday — the closing date being Jan. 30, no exceptions.

Tryouts will be held 6 p.m., Feb. 8 for boys 5-6; 6 p.m., Feb. 9 for boys 7-8; and 6 p.m. Feb. 11 for boys 9-12. You must register to tryout. Opening day is March 6.

GRIFFIN SOCCER REGISTRATION: Griffin Soccer registration for the 2010 spring season is now open on-line at www.griffinsoccer.org.

Walk-in registration dates are Jan. 23, and 30th from 10 a.m., until 3 p.m., at the Tyus Park Soccer Building.

YOUTH SOFTBALL REGISTRATION: The Griffin-Spalding Youth Softball Association is conducting registration for its spring season from noon until 4 p.m., on Saturdays through Feb. 27 at the Volunteer Park Softball Complex.

The league is for girls between the ages of 4-17.

SPALDING HIGH FOOTBALL BANQUET: The Spalding High football team will have its annual banquet 6:30 p.m., Monday Jan. 25 in the SHS commons.

All football players and their immediate family are invited. Also all booster club members, sponsors, and season ticket holders are invited. The Jags went 5-6 in 2009 and reached the state playoffs for the first time in six years.

A short booster club meeting will be held immediately after the banquet to elect officers for next year.

GRIFFIN HIGH FOOTBALL BANQUET: The Griffin High football team will have its annual banquet 6:30 p.m., Wednesday Jan. 27 to celebrate the 2009 season.

The Bears (13-1) made it back-to-back trips to the Class AAAA state semifinals in 2009. All players, coaches, family and fans are welcome. Cost is $6 per plate for fans.

HEART HUSTLE: Futral Road Elementary Charter School’s 10th annual Heart Hustle 5K Run will be held 9 a.m., Feb. 6 at the school.

The festivities will also include a 1-mile fun run and Tot Trot at 8:30 a.m., as well as a 5K Walk.

Fee to participate is $15 for adults (over 18) and $10 for children before Jan. 29, and $20 for adults and $15 for children after Jan. 29. Family discounts are also available.
