LAGRANGE, Ga. — Anthony Lewis sank a driving lay-up at the buzzer to give the Griffin Christian High Crusaders a 65-64 victory over the LaGrange Academy Warriors Tuesday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 17-4 overall and 7-2 in GISA Region 4-AA and they clinch second place in the Region 4-AA South subregion.
The Crusaders had the Warriors (15-5, 6-4) on the ropes all night, at one time leading by 17 points (45-28) in the third quarter.
But LaGrange made a furious comeback, taking its first lead of the game at 64-63 with 9.8 seconds remaining in the contest.
After a GCHS timeout, Lewis penetrated and made his lay-up over two 6-foot-3 defenders. The ball bounced around the rim and rolled through the net just as the final horn sounded.
“What a game and what a shot by Anthony,” Crusaders head coach Mic Savage said. “You could hear a pin drop in their gym after his shot went in.”
Lewis finished with 22 points, 3 steals and 6 assists. Lee Neidert added 18 points, 4 steals and 3 blocks and Elias Seise had 15 points and 11 rebounds for GCHS.
GCHS hosts region foe Harvester Friday at 7:30 p.m.
