The Spalding Jags baseball team got home runs from Dylan Griffin and Pat Gasses to win their Region 4-AAA opener 7-1 over the Locust Grove Wildcats Monday evening at home.

The Jags scored two runs in the second inning, three in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth. Locust Grove’s only run came in the top of the fifth.

Griffin, who was the Jags’ starting pitcher, broke the game open with a two-run monster shot to deep center field, which made the score 5-0 in favor of Spalding in the third.

Spalding ran the bases well, getting runs off wild pitches and sacrifices.

Gasses hit his home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth, a solo shot.

With the win, Spalding improves to 3-1 (1-0 region), with a three-game win streak after opening the season with a one-point loss to Upson-Lee.

Spalding’s next game is a home contest Wednesday against region foe Jackson at 6 p.m.
