According to Spalding County Sheriff Dee Stewart, a Griffin man, 23-year-old Joshua Dean Murray — whose last known address is 105 Big Dam Road, Jackson — has been arrested and charged with two armed robberies of the Kangaroo Store at the intersection of Jackson Road and Highway 155.

Officials say the armed robberies took place during the early morning of March 7 and 8, and that money and cigarettes were stolen during the incidents.

The two Kangaroo employees who were working during the separate robberies, a male and female clerk, were not verbally threatened during the armed robberies, said Capt. Tony Ranieri, of the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), who added that the arrest came after a tip was reported after the incidents were reported by the media.

“We received an e-mail from Crime Stoppers Atlanta that provided information that led to his apprehension,” said Ranieri.

He went on to say that he and property crime investigators from CID were then able to track Murray to a residence at Ponderosa Mobile Home Park.

“Once we were at the residence, Murray attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by investigators,” Ranieri said.

Authorities say Murray’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Jessica Lynn Yarbrough, of 1428 Tower St., Griffin, was also arrested at the Ponderosa residence. She has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects.

Murray has been charged with two counts each of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and kidnapping, as well as one count each of possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. In addition, Murray was wanted on a Spalding County bench warrant for failure to appear on traffic charges.

Stewart said the investigation is ongoing and officials continue to seek the driver of the vehicle involved in the robbery. Once that individual is identified, Stewart said he or she will also be charged with armed robbery.

Ranieri said both Murray and Yarbrough are currently being held in the Spalding County Detention Center awaiting their first appearance hearing.
