“Qualifying begins on April 26 and continues through April 30th,” said Spalding County Election Supervisor Terry Colling.
Candidates will qualify with the political parties and pay the qualifying fee.
This year, Spalding County Board of Commissioners districts 2 and 5, currently held by Commissioner Dave Phillips and Board of Commissioners Chairman Eddie Goss, respectively, will be contested. The qualifying fee is $420.06. The State Court solicitor general position will be contested this year as well. The qualifying fee for that post is $1,350.
The Superior Court judicial seat held by Chris Edwards will also be contested this year but since the position’s jurisdiction crosses county lines, judicial candidates must qualify with the state.
Qualifying will take place at the Spalding County Elections office, which is in the Spalding County Courthouse Annex on East Solomon Street. Qualifying will last from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day but the last day. On the last day, it will end at noon.
Colling said if anyone has any questions, he or she should contact the elections office at 770-467-4245.
